The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut gGmbH, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik is a leading international research institute that studies diode lasers, LEDs and microwave devices.

On the basis of III/V semiconductors, it researches and implements components and systems for applications in communications, traffic and production technology, medicine and biotechnology. It covers the entire value chain from design to ready-for-delivery systems.

The GaN Power Electronic Devices Lab is looking for a research staff member / PhD Student.

(Reference number 30/21)

You design and realize GaN and AlN-based switching transistors and circuits with integrated gate drivers and sensing elements for fast-switching and efficient power converters. You will process the novel power-electronic devices in the FBH cleanrooms and perform the electrical device characterization. You publish the results in scientific papers and use them for your PhD thesis.

Candidates must have successfully completed their university education (master’s degree, diploma) in electrical engineering, physics, or in a related discipline. You have a good background in semiconductor technology and in power electronics. Practical experience in semiconductor device processing is of advantage.

You feel challenged by an interdisciplinary research topic covering power electronics, RF electronics and material technology. You enjoy working in laboratory and cleanroom environments. Teamwork and independent work as well as good knowledge of the English language, both spoken and written, are required.
Appropriate German language skills are desired.

We offer a demanding interdisciplinary work with developing innovative semiconductor devices and we give the opportunity to pursue a PhD degree.

The position is available by 01/01/2022 and is initially limited to two years. Payment is according to TVöD (collective salary scheme for German public service).
