The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut gGmbH, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik is a leading international research institute that studies diode lasers, LEDs and microwave devices.
On the basis of III/V semiconductors, it researches and implements components and systems for applications in communications, traffic and production technology, medicine and biotechnology. It covers the entire value chain from design to ready-for-delivery systems.
The Power Electronics Department is looking for a research staff member / PhD Student.

Due to its outstanding physical properties, the semiconductor material Gallium Nitride (GaN) has the potential to significantly improve power converter efficiency. As part of the current research activities at FBH vertical transistor structures based on GaN are being developed, fabricated and electrically characterized. In order to achieve this goal, new technologies, device concepts, as well as semiconductor device manufacturing and integration strategies have to be designed and investigated. GaN based device development at FBH covers the full value-added chain from design of experiment, simulations, clean room manufacturing, electrical devices characterization to statistical analysis of the results.
Candidates must have successfully completed their university education (master’s degree, diploma) in physics, electrical engineering or materials science. They have to have a good background in semiconductor technology and in power electronics. Practical experience in semiconductor device processing is of advantage.
Teamwork, a focussed independent working style and a very good knowledge of the English language, both spoken and written, are required. Appropriate German language skills are desirable. Programing skills (for example Python, C/C++, JMP etc.) are of advantage.
We offer a demanding interdisciplinary work on innovative semiconductor devices for power applications and we provide the opportunity to pursue a PhD degree. Furthermore, research results have to be published in scientific journal on a regular base.
The position can be filled immediately and is initially limited to two years. Payment is according to TVöD (collective salary scheme for German public service).
