For our High Power Diode Lasers Lab in the research area Photonics we are looking for a research staff member / PhD Student.

The goal of the planned research studies is to develop near infra-red kilowatt-class diode laser bars with the best possible beam properties, based on the use of novel chip configurations and designs. The studies will be performed in cooperation with FBH experts in epitaxial growth, wafer processing, simulation and device characterization.
The research tasks include design work that exploits state-of-the-art simulation tools and also extensive experimental characterization of the realized diode lasers to identify and address their limiting factors. A central focus of the studies is the optimization of diode lasers for high-power continuous-wave operation, where many non-linear effects arise.
Candidates must have successfully completed their university education in natural sciences (masters degree, diploma) in the field of physics or electrical engineering, specializing in lasers, optoelectronics, or semiconductor physics. There is the option of receiving a PhD. Education and experience in the fields of diode lasers, semiconductor technology or optical resonators are preferred.
Diode lasers are fabricated via a long process chain, so excellent organizational and teamwork skills are essential for the successful completion of the research tasks. Good understanding of German and English is required, to enable effective research work as part of an international team.
The position can be filled immediately and is initially limited to two years.
