The Ferdinand-Braun-Institut, Leibniz-Institut für Höchstfrequenztechnik (FBH) is an application-oriented research institute in the fields of high-frequency electronics, photonics and quantum physics. It researches electronic and optical components, modules and systems based on compound semiconductors. These devices are key enablers that address the needs of today’s society in fields like communications, energy, health, and mobility. It covers the entire value chain from design to ready-for-delivery systems.

Our Digital PA Lab is one of the world's leading research groups on GaN-based digital transceiver architectures and novel power amplifier concepts for the mobile communication infrastructure. For a new research activity on GaN-based, digitally enhanced full-duplex transceiver architectures together with the Joint Lab BTU-CS – FBH Microwave, we are looking for a Scientific Employee (m/f/d) for digital signal processing and RF circuit design, to start as soon as possible.

Referenz number 13/26

Your tasks

  • Understanding and adaptation/further development of the FBH’s patented digital modulation concept for use in a full-duplex transceiver with a digital power amplifier
  • Analysis and modeling of the nonlinear, time-dependent behavior of digital microwave power amplifiers in MATLAB
  • Development of algorithms for suppressing/eliminating self-interference in full-duplex transceivers using digital signal processing, both in the radio frequency (RF) domain and in the baseband
  • Design and implementation of system measurements for the completed full-duplex demonstrator

Your profile

  • A master’s degree or equivalent in electrical engineering, signal processing, or physics with a focus on high-frequency technology, microwave technology, digital signal processing, or analog and digital electronics
  • Practical experience in digital signal processing and the design of integrated high-frequency circuits (MMICs)
  • Ability to work effectively in a team
  • Fluency in English
  • Position may be tailored as a postdoctoral position or a Ph.D. position

Our offer

  • A versatile position at a leading research institute
  • A workplace with ideal public transportation connections, employer subsidy for a job ticket, and bicycle parking spaces
  • Individual development opportunities and further training
30 vacation days (based on a five-day week), flexible working hours through flexitime, additional flex days and individual working time agreements
  • Services for families: Advice and referral to childcare services, provision of places in a kindergarten in Berlin financed by the institute
  • Access to health services on campus (yoga, running club, movement break and soft skills training) via the Adlershof health network
  • Employment, remuneration and social benefits are based on the collective agreement for the public service (TVöD Bund) including annual special payment, capital-forming benefits (VWL) and company pension scheme (VBL). The wage is paid up to pay group 13/2 if the relevant requirements are met

FBH is an equal-opportunity employer and actively supports the compatibility of family and career. Particular attention is paid to gender equality and diversity. The Institute strives to increase the proportion of women in this area. Female candidates are encouraged to apply. Among equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to handicapped candidates. The position can be filled at the earliest possible date and is initially limited to two years. A long-term cooperation is desired.
